About Laurel Moon

As a child, I was fascinated with stories from the past.  I loved reading folktales and myths.  As I grew older I sought out more stories and read Joseph Campbell's work.  I was intrigued by the structure of myths.

In December of 1995, I took a jewelry-making class from a local beadstore and immediately loved it.  I spent more time taking classes and then began selling my work.  Within a few years I had sold several pieces to the Detroit Institute of Arts for its gift shops and I started selling at galleries, craft shows and art fairs.  I also worked for a gallery which sold handcrafted jewelry and it was a great chance to make one of a kind pieces, as well as polish my skills as a jewelry designer.

I began to sell my jewelry online in 2009, shortly after we moved to a cozy home with a view of a pond in the backyard.  I chose to set up my office in the master bedroom, with a wonderful view of the water and woods, and it's been inspiring me ever since.

My jewelry desk is where I create my designs.  I also have a huge selection of beads which serve as my palette.  I'm very happy to be doing what I love every single day.  I get up each morning and my first thought is, what do I want to create today?

I'm still fascinated by myths and folktales, and I love creating jewelry that evokes a connection to the past, whether it's a medusa pendant or a spirit lock.  The stories of the past influence my work in the present.

I hope you'll join me in my journey!
